There are many festivals in Taiwan, which includes the Taiwan lantern festival and the Yanshui beehive Fireworks festival in Tainan.
The Taiwan lantern festival is a festival where thousands of sky lanterns light up in the sky and these Pingxi sky lanterns are released to let others know that the town is safe.
The Yanshui beehive Fireworks festival is the 5th most dangerous festival in the world as the fireworks are pointed to the crowd to get the attention of thrill seeking tourists. During the festival, it is most advisable to cover all your skin such as to cover your whole head with a motorcycle helmet and so on. Many people get injured and some might get hit by the fireworks.
This festival is originally celebrated to ward of evil and disease from the town.
The history of this festival is because the town of Yanshui was hit hard by the cholera disease and decided to call on God to give them strength in their fight against the disease. They have been using fireworks to attract the gods and have been doing so since then.
The Yanshui beehive lantern festival is actually also under the Taiwan lantern festival, but is celebrated in another district.
These 2 events are known as 'Fireworks in the South, sky lanterns in the North'.
These 2 events does not have a exact date each year, but the date is usually between the 3rd of February to the 25th of March.
